About The Artwork
In the vast field of consciousness which pervades everything, consciousness manifests itself into an incredible variety of forms that we see and don’t see.
Everything appears to be in one of three states of being. Even the breath we take has a beginning, middle and end or is inhaled, sustained for a few seconds and then exhaled.
The term “Ek Oankar” is an eastern bija (seed) mantra it expresses the divine transformation of energy into form and form into energy in an infinite cyclic process.
The 3 states of being “O-an-kar”.
The first state, beginning, (O), is when a form is created and comes into being in this waking reality. It includes anything you can think of, from the micro to macro scale, living or non-living.
The second state, middle, (an), is that the created form is sustained for a while in this waking reality, this is the lifetime that we are currently experiencing. We are all in this state of being as living humans at this time. This state is called life and as it progresses for each of us it leads to the third and final state of being.
The third state, end, (kar) is that the created and sustained form dissolves back to where it came from or we say its has been destroyed or has died. This state is called death and this state leads back to the first state and everything seems to be recycled, even existence and it is cyclic nature which gives rise to what we call impermanence or change in our waking reality.
The “Ek” represents the numeral one and in this context means there is one and only one something (i.e energy, god, etc) that is responsible for all these 3 states of being.
In this piece I have vocalized the mantra so that the viewer can hear it, the extenuated kaaaar represent the never ending nature of the process of creation, sustenance and destruction.
