Continuing to explore painting from distant moving images, I am pushing myself to loosen up the mark-making so that there is less distinction between the moving and static elements that I am recording. The slo-motion iPhone video that my good friend Diarmuid sent me, had a wonderful ephemeral quality to it. And painting directly from this silent moving image, inevitably brought up many memories. I wanted to paint that intensity. His message was all the more powerful without words. Sometimes a look can say it all.’
