Zach Lieberman
1 — 31 July 2024
GAZELL.iO is pleased to announce its 100th Resident, coinciding with the Awaken, Metamagical Hands exhibition at Gazelli Art House London. To mark this milestone, we’ll host a series of events throughout the exhibition dates (19 July - 21 September 2024).
Our 100th resident artist is Zach Lieberman, a renowned artist-educator based in New York who specializes in generative and interactive systems. Lieberman is celebrated for his development of OpenFrameworks, an open-source C toolkit for creative coding, and for co-founding the School of Poetic Computation.
Since 2004, Lieberman has been at the forefront of digital art, with his daily sketches over the past five years highlighting his innovative generative techniques. Among his many accolades, Lieberman won the prestigious Golden Nica award from Ars Electronica, and his groundbreaking project EyeWriter has been exhibited multiple times at the MoMA.
Lieberman describes himself as a creator of playful systems, which is evident in his use of vibrant colour palettes and dynamic, "funky" motions. His dedication to the craft and its tools has paved the way for contemporary creative coders. Additionally, he serves as a professor at MIT’s Media Lab, where he leads the Future Sketches group.
