About The Artwork

To wrap up my (our) month long digital residency I have built a Social VR theater in Mozilla Hubs to hold all the works C.A.R.L.A. G.A.N. and I have produced over the past month, and I’m pleased to announce that we will be opening it tomorrow as part of SUPERHIGHWAY 2020 (NYE edition) organized by Miriam Arbus and Matthew Gantt. Please feel free to visit the space (entitled “Teaching an Artificially Intelligent Avatar How to Say I Love You In Social VR”) here >>> https://hubs.mozilla.com/ZWGCyJp/taaiahtsilyisvr at any time. For a special poetry reading in the space, please swing by at 10pm EST TODAY (Dec 31, New Year’s Eve) **AND** head to the Superhighway Mozilla Hubs home base to get the full schedule of ALL performances and links to the 25+ hub spaces open to celebrate the END of 2020 >>> https://hubs.mozilla.com/QPBgBEE/superhighway/.

Mozilla Hubs FAQ: To enter the theater click on this link https://hubs.mozilla.com/ZWGCyJp/taaiahtsilyisvr (again go to @carlagannis bio for this url) and then press “Enter Room.” Chrome or Firefox browsers are recommended. If you are wearing a VR headset you need to enter through Firefox. Once inside, use the WASD keys on your keyboard to move around, G to fly, and the mouse to turn. You can chat, add objects and take photos in the space by either (respectively) typing in the chat field [bottom of screen] or clicking on the magic wand icon [top middle screen] or clicking on the camera icon [top middle screen]. *If you are wearing a headset, use your controllers instead of the keyboard

About Carla Gannis

For the December GAZELL.iO Residency Brooklyn-based artist Carla Gannis will be collaborating with her avatar C.A.R.L.A. G.A.N. (Crossplatform Avatar for Recursive Life Action Generative Adversarial Network) to mine the philosophical and emotional depths of Sci-fi tropes and Magic Realist allegories. Through mimesis, performance and conversation, in virtual and physical spaces, Gannis and C.A.R.L.A. will switch between mentor and mentee to create poetic instantiations of the “real” across realities.
