I used this video recording of a recent Skype call to create this multy layered iPad painting. I’ve been experimenting further with the idea of how we perceive an image that changes over time. The layer feature in the Procreate application were useful in painting selected aspects of the experience and choosing the compositional qualities in which they were placed. I enjoyed creating the effects of transparency and blurring in some of the images. The light from the window in the background helped me to Keep some structure for the painting to cling onto.

"I’ve started working on a new series for the Gazelli Art House digital residency. I’m using the Procreate application with a slightly modified brush setting. I am painting from observation and directly from slo-mo iPhone recordings of the sitter which I find fascinating. This painting is of Eduardo Stein, a great local oil painter, friend and mentor. Painting from a video of a moving subject is closer to the real life experience and has pushed me to be more inventive. The video acts as an aide-memoire of the experience".
